The Highlander

Many thanks to neighbors that were a part of the wonderful traditions of the AHCA holiday season. It was wonderful that Santa could take time from his busy schedule to go through the neighborhood and visit with the children. We were blessed to have many donations for our food drive. Vorry and Candace Moon know how to put on a party and it was great to have such a big turnout for our holiday party. It’s always beautiful to see our neighborhood lit up with holiday luminaries on Christmas Eve. Again, THANK YOU to all of the volunteers and board members for making 2022 a big success.

In light of all the cold and snow we’ve had, just a reminder on residential snow removal:

  • City of Centennial – In the interest of public safety and the absence of a City ordinance, the City strongly encourages citizens to remove snow from the sidewalks adjoining their property within 24 hours after a snowstorm ends.
  • Colorado Department of Transportation – Owners must place snow from their sidewalks onto their front yard or other areas of their own property, and not into the street. This practice reduces the number of icy areas on streets and ensures proper drainage flow into the storm sewer once snow melts.
  • If you are needing help with snow removal please check the AHCA Directory as we have neighborhood teens that provide that service or email our association at ahca.web@gmail.com and we can see about getting you help.

With the holidays behind us, we look toward 2023. Our January Annual meeting was on January 31st. We are excited to have new board members & volunteers. We had board elections (see AHCA Business for election results) and a vote on the increase of dues from $50 to $75 annually. At the meeting, there is continued discussion of how to best communicate with neighbors for membership, events, important city & neighborhood issues, and any emergency matters that might arise. Our AHCA website is a FABULOUS way to keep up-to-date with events, board minutes and neighborhood/local happenings. We also encourage everyone to attend the neighborhood meetings that are on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm and various neighbor’s houses. We would love to hear from you regarding what the board is doing for the neighborhood.

We continue to discuss events and activities that neighbors find fun and useful events while adhering to our budget. Our neighborhood population is changing as there are many new families that have moved in. It’s important for the board to watch our budget, but it is clear that the cost of everything has increased. Service (dumpster & chipper, bouncy house, balloon guy) prices have gone up. And we know you have all seen the costs of food & goods (printing flyers) go up. Given all these factors the AHCA board will strive to provide quality events and services while keeping a check on costs. Dues have not changed since the inception of the Civic Association in 1985. Our membership form was recently mailed to each household in the neighborhood. Neighbors can either mail the form and payment back to the AHCA or drop off at the home of Alex Wolf at 7657 S Williams St or create/update the membership information on the AHCA website – www.arapahoehighlands.com and pay online with PayPal. In this mailing we also included a calendar of events & AHCA meetings. These are all subject to change if necessary.

CONGRATULATIONS

We’d like to welcome baby Nora & baby Oliver to the neighborhood!!
