Sadly one of our long time residents Jack Ferris passed away recently. We are sending our love to his family. Please see below for his obituary, he will be greatly missed.
John A. “Jack” Ferris, 81, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 31, 2020. Jack was born in Orange, New Jersey on April 8, 1939 to Dona Mitcheltree and John Ferris. He was the youngest of 2 children. His love and passion for cars started early on in his life when he was gifted a 1956 corvette that he restored and still owns today. He went on to restore many other cars during his life and made a career in the auto industry. He worked for GM for 30 years in the service department and retired at an early age. This gave him time to enjoy his hobby of restoring cars. He later went back to work at Arapahoe Community College working with young students in the automotive department. He was a member of the Crown Victoria Association for over 40 years and traveled across the country to car conventions every summer with his family. Jack is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Kathy, children Jack, Julie (Mac), Jen (Ben), and Kim (Eric); grandchildren April, Courtney, Ashlie, Samantha, Brynn, Drew, Mae, and Jack; 3 great-grandchildren, his sister Susan (Kel), and nieces and nephews. A service will be held in early 2021.
Upcoming Events:
December 19th
- Santa and Elves- we are planning to have this event in a socially distanced way on Saturday December 19th. Please stay tuned for more details and if you want to be included, we’ll need a wrapped gift for each of your kids brought to Hank Salman’s home!
- Food Baskets- We’d love to help families in need so we’re holding a Neighborhood Food Drive! Please email Hank at hsalmans@gmail.com if you want to go in on a large basket or split one with another neighbor.
Canned food and gift card pick up options:
A new option this year: Santa can swing by your house at the same time he and his elves are visiting the kids on December 19 to get your donation!
OR you can drop off food items at Kathy Walker’s, Christy Jones’ or Susie Lewis’ homes. We will have boxes that are labeled for the food drive on December 19th.
***Examples of nonperishable items (Mac and cheese, ramen, rice, canned veggies and fruit, pasta, rice, soup, bags of stuffing, peanut butter, instant potatoes, cranberry tomato sauce) or King Soopers gift cards.
Luminaries- Hank Salmans and John Wakefield- Dec 24- stay tuned for more details on where to pick up the bags. Get your candles now, the longer burning the better. We’ve been told Catholic stores and Amazon have the larger ones.
Christmas Caroling- sadly canceled this year but we hope to resume next year!
New Business:
City of Centennial has free drive through COVID testing – Arapahoe and S Vaughn. Go to https://www.centennialco.gov/News-Media-Center/Free-COVID-19-community-testing and sign up before going to save yourself some time.
The next meeting will likely be virtual on January 19th at 6:30 pm. Please join us for elections for the 2021 AHCA Board. If you would like to serve on the board please contact us as our community really needs people to step up to continue the great work of this long-standing civic association!
It would be great if the neighbors could be informed in a more timely manner when neighbors die.
I hope there will be an email to let us know each time when a new newsletter has been posted on the website.
Hi Lila, thank you for using our new website! Yes we will always send out an email before we post the updates to our website. For example, the newsletter that was sent via email yesterday has not yet been added to this website, but will be posted here very soon. I back-posted the last few email newsletters to give the website some foundational content, and this particular post with Jack’s obituary was emailed to AHCA members on November 22, 2020. Thank you again for your feedback and if you have any additional concerns I’m always happy to hear them!
