The Highlander

Hello Neighbors,

Summer is in full swing, in fact it’s hard to believe that school will start in just under a month! Our neighborhood summer started with our Chipper & Dumpster Days on June 3rd & 4th. A big thank you to all the volunteers who helped get this set up and man the sign-in tables. This year we added a scrap metal service free of charge to everyone with the goal of recycling and reusing parts when possible, instead of throwing them in a landfill. This was a huge hit with the neighborhood with over 500 lbs of metal picked up!

We currently have 76 neighbors that have paid dues. We continue to accept dues anytime by check or on PayPal through our website.

This year we combined our Bob Stephens Memorial picnic (typically held in June) and 4th of July parade to celebrate the holiday. Thank you to South Metro Fire Department, the Mounted Patrol Unit of Arapahoe County and Chuck McLaughlin (parade music) for being a part of the parade. Thank you to neighbors Keisha Gimm and Justin Denton for providing dogs & burgers for our picnic afterwards. Everyone loved the shared dishes and saying ‘hi’ to neighbors!

Our next social event is on ☀️ Wednesday, August 2, starting at 6:30pm ☀️. We are having an Ice Cream Social🍦😎 to celebrate the National Night Out – which celebrates bringing neighbors together to strengthen our communities. We’ll have ice cream and a balloon artist from Simply Smiles Entertainment starting at 6:30pm at the Jamison Ave cul-de-sac.

Our next board meeting will be on Tuesday, September 19th at 7:00pm at the home of Candace & Vorry Moon. We encourage any & all neighbors to attend as this is one way to keep up on what the AHCA board is doing and planning for the neighborhood. It’s also a way to see where you might want to help out with events, activities or neighborhood logistics. Do you have an idea for a neighborhood event? Let the AHCA board know when, how and the cost of holding the event so we can consider it!

Our Fall Festival will be on Saturday, September 23rd. We’ll be having a Chili Cook-off, pumpkin decorating, music and a bouncy house in Gilpin Court. Neighborhood cooks, get your ladles ready to win AHCA Best Chili bragging rights!! More details to follow.

Thank you to Emily Masters for getting the ‘Arapahoe Highlands Civic Association’ Facebook page up and running again. This is another way to keep up on AHCA happenings. This is a private page, just for our neighborhood. Check it out! We also have our website to find documents, PayPal link to pay dues, events, local information and more.

Our neighborhood has been blessed with many great volunteers. With that in mind, we would like to bring back “delivery dashers” to help with delivering door-to-door flyers, directories, notices or any communication from the board. This will be an individual or a pair, that will pick a street and deliver items when needed. Information will be printed, bundled with the correct number of items to be delivered to each home on your chosen street. Items need to be delivered 2-3 days after receiving your bundle. This will be a commitment for a year if possible. Household breakdown: Dry Creek Pl. – 20, Jamison Ave. – 17 + South Humboldt – 3, Jamison Pl. – 30, Williams St. – 19 and Gilpin Ct – 11. Please contact Danny Bier (dlb1027@gmail.com) or Alex Wolf (wolf.alexh@gmail.com) if you would like to help out.
